A lasting commitment to prevention

Nicholas Rosecrans drowned in 1996. His death moved San Diego paramedics to work with his mother, Lynn Artz, to promote prevention and recognize EMS teams helping communities avoid injury and illness.

The Nicholas Rosecrans Award honors individuals, teams, and organizations whose prevention work involves local EMS. It recognizes a role for EMS that extends beyond responding to emergencies: working with community partners to help prevent them.

Learning from EMS prevention

The project connects that legacy to a practical question: how can more EMS organizations make public health partnership part of their work? Recognizing prevention programs gives other communities examples to learn from and people to learn alongside.

Working hand in hand with the registry

Our new registry is designed to help organizations translate public health priorities into topics they can track and evaluate. The project shares the purpose and experience of EMS prevention; the registry helps make participation easier to organize.
